You are not getting true surround sound and never will unless you cable it correctly and use the amp/speakers exclusively. My advice would be to buy the additional speakers, otherwise, I really do not see the point in having the amp there. You say the Tivo box is connected to the amp via component video cables (green/blue/red) but you have no component cable running from the amp to the TV? The amp does not support video conversion (page 8 of your manual) so how are you getting a picture? This will give you HD audio (lossless) audio formats I suppose you could route the the audio to the TV by connecting the PS3 to the TV via HDMI and then running the audio (optical cable) to the amp and 'hoping' it can pass audio via external sources but I suggest:Ī) Buy matching centre and front speakers and connect them upī) Set the PS3 to output LPCM over HDMI under BD/DVD settings. See page 31 of your manualīasically this means that if you route the audio via the amp from the PS3 as HDMI, it will be processed by the amp and therefore only output over the rear speakers as those are the only ones that you have connected. However, it appears you can either process the audio in the amp or pass it to the TV but not both. You will not need the optical cable from the PS3 but pleaes bear with me and read on as this does not solve your problems. I have just downloaded your receiver manual and it appears it can handle audio over HDMI, so my apologies for the error in my first post. Have a look at the rear of your equipment and also read the manuals, particularly the receivers. I checked the Samsung site and could not find any mention of an analogue audio output, only optical. It may be that you have connected an audio input on the TV, perhaps sited next to the component input to the input on the amp. Also check that you are connecting from an audio output (marked with a circle with the arrow pointing outwards. Ensure that you select the input that the cables are connected to. Did you do this? Connecting cables randomly as mentioned above will achieve nothing. You often have to assign inputs on a receiver. Do you have front speakers connected to the receiver?ģ. You mention TV speakers and amp speakers at the same time. HDMI (digital) and analogue and the amp converts these to a single HDMI output. You have more than one HDMI source and wish to use the receiver as a switch, resulting in one HDMI cable to the TV.Ĭ. There is no point in connecting an HDMI source to the receiver and then from the receiver to the TV unless:Ī. TV - Receiver via optical audio (for pseudo surround sound from TV tuner and possibly Tivo - see above)ġ. If it only outputs analogue 2.0 channel audio, then you could connect it how you have already and run the audio cable from the TV to the receiver to cover both internal tuner and Tivo (if it works!) This could be digital (optical or digi-coax) or analogue (red/white RCA phono) Tivo - Component Video (green/blue/red) to TV and a separate audio connection to the receiver. Set audio to output via optical in audio settings and set to bitstream in the BD/DVD settings. I'll start by suggesting how I think it should be cabled:
